The women from Kiyindi Women Fish Association that brings together women dealing in different fish businesses, exhibited samosas, which were delicious and exciting to many who visited their stall.

This was at the 2024 Harvest Money expo which took place at Kololo Independence Grounds last month (February).

Peruth Logose, the chairperson of the association, says they are working together with the department of fisheries to add value to fish. Currently, they are making products, such as samosas, fried and pasted fish from silverfish.

She explains that after closing the Uganda-Rwanda border, they had to think outside the box, since they did not have the market for their silverfish, which sold at sh12,000 for the well dried, and a basin for between sh20,000 and sh40, 000.

“We had to start making products like samosas from silverfish. It got market. We sold each at sh1,000. A kilogramme, which cost sh12,000, fetched sh50,000,” Logose adds.

She notes that they made sausages from Nile perch and sold a kilogramme at sh8,000, earning them sh70, 000.
