Farming Will Make Me Rich And Famous

If you go around asking children what they want to be when they grow up, the majority will tell you they want to become a doctor or engineer of some sort and others; lawyers or politicians

However, Madeleine Ddembe is different. The nine year old pupil of Sir Apollo Kaggwa Primary school Kisaasi is among the small league of children who aspire to become farmers. To her, farming is a source of food, money and fame.

“I want to employ myself, become rich and famous. The only way I will achieve my dream is through farming,” she says adding that; “I see many successful female farmers on TV and admire them. I have come to the expo to meet some of them.”

Ddembe attended the three day Harvest Money expo 2025 which was held at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole from February 14-16.

Over 20,000 people and 220 exhibitors attended.

Ddembe was with her mother, a farmer and they visited the different stalls where Ddembe says she learnt a lot about plants, animals and machines.

“I am going back home to start a garden. I will start with carrots and cucumber because they are easy to grow and they mature fast,” she says.

“I used to admire my mother when she had a farm in Masaka. She used to grow matooke and rear animals as well,” she adds.

Meanwhile, aside from plants, Ddembe also loves cats and dogs.

She believes they can also be reared for commercial purposes.

To children out there, she has this to say; “Some of you say that farming is dirty but I tell you, there is a lot of money and food.”
