What Is The Ideal Size Of Holes For Planting Coffee Seedlings?

The holes, ideally round, should be 2ft wide and 2ft deep. While digging, heap the fertile topsoil separate from the reddish subsoil. When done, refill the holes with topsoil mixed with a basin of manure and if possible, a handful of DAP for best yield. Finally, heap the soil above the ground level to allow for sinking when soil settles.

Does coffee require fertilisers?

Yes. For best results, apply fertilisers in the pits/holes before and after planting. Read the labels and directions for use on the fertiliser package before applying. Using organic fertilizers is highly recommended since it does not leave chemical residues on the crops. This can be livestock dung for example. A hole takes at least a wheelbarrow load of the livestock dung. The shamba should be fertilized at least twice a year, preferably before each rainy season.
