The Vision Group master classes started today (Monday, January 27), with a session focusing on fish farming.

The session was aired live on Bukedde TV1 from 10 am to 11 am and a repeat will run today at 10 pm on Bukedde TV2.

The Master Classes are organised by Vision Group with the support of the Embassy of the Netherlands, KLM Airlines, Koudjis Nutrition BV and dfcu Bank.

During the session, Ivan Sabwe, an expert from Koudijs and De Hues, a fish feed production factory focused on feeds, water quality and safety at the site.

Sabwe will also train about fish farming during the 2025 Harvest Money expo. The expo is set for February 14th to 16th at Namboole Stadium.

Sabwe said before starting fish farming, one has to plan in order not to make losses.

He said 60% of the farm cost is feeding. He, therefore, advised farmers to feed fish an hour after sunset and not in the morning when it’s cold.

About safety at the farm, Sabwe advised farmers to plant tobacco around the fish pond to chase away snakes.

“Another way to keep snakes off the farm is to always cut the grass. This will keep the fish and workers safe at the site. So, a slasher is a must-have at the farm,” he explained.

He added that, “Also, strings should be placed over the ponds to prevent birds from attacking the fish.”

The master classes will be running until Friday, January 31. Tomorrow’s (Tuesday, January 28), session will be about poultry farming.
