Agriculture minister Frank Tumwebaze has officially handed over 100 motorcycles and 73 Samsung tablets to agricultural inspectors to strengthen seed systems in the country.

These items, which he handed over on Tuesday, were procured with support from AGRA, an alliance led by Africans with roots in farming communities across the continent.

AGRA says that it understands that African farmers need uniquely African solutions designed to meet their specific environmental and agricultural needs so they can sustainably boost production and gain access to rapidly growing agriculture markets.

“The 100 motorcycles will be used as means of transport for seed inspectors while the tablets will be used for data collection,” the ministry of agriculture said in a tweet.

The ministry has been saying that seed is a reproducible resource and a key input of agricultural production because it links conservation, cultivation, production, consumption and trade to commercialization of agriculture.
