The Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) has announced that rains, that support plant growth to start in Mid-March.
UNMA adds that rains will be experienced first in South Western parts of the country, Central and Lake Victoria basin.
Districts found in the South Western Part of the country include Mbarara, Rwampara, Isingiro, Kiruhura, Kazo, Lyantonde, Kisoro Kabale Rukungiri.
Districts in the central region and Lake Victoria basin include Kampala, Wakiso, Mpigi, Mukono, Kayunga, Buikwe, Buvuma, Mityana, Butambala, Kalungu, Kalangala, Masaka, Lwengo. While northern parts will receive normal planting rains at the end of March ad and early April.
The UNMA forecast adds that starting next week the country will experience rains characterized by thunderstorms, strong winds, lightening and hailstorms.
In the meantime, Steven Byantwale the Commissioner for Crop Protection in the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) advised farmers to look out for quality planting materials, agro chemicals so as to take advantage of first rains.
