Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has challenged farmers to endeavour to add value to their products so as to get better returns.

Nabbanja made the remarks on Sunday, August 21 while presiding over the farmer mobilisation, education, value addition and service delivery campaign at Butemba Secondary School in Butemba Town Council, Kyankwanzi district.

The three-day campaign saw Nabbanja also tour the districts of Mubende, Mityana and Kibogain in a bid to spur modernisation, increased productivity, and sustainability in agriculture.

She underscored the importance of agricultural exhibitions, saying they provide a platform for farmers and researchers to interact and share experiences and new technologies.

John Mpuuga, the Kyankwanzi district chairperson, challenged extension workers to help farmers modernise and asked the government to intervene in some of the issues affecting farmers such as fake chemicals and inputs on the market.

“I appeal to the agricultural extension workers to add effort in serving our people so that they can modernise farming,” Mpuuga said.

John Rubinga, the production manager at Nkwanzi Resources Development Limited, one of the agro companies that exhibited, urged farmers to implement the knowledge acquired from the expo.
