Uganda largely operates as a peasant economy, meaning that many people engaged in agriculture do so on a small scale, primarily to sustain themselves and their families.
To shift their mindsets towards value addition and agribusiness, there must be deliberate efforts and structures in place to facilitate this transformation.
Flona Organics, one of the exhibitors at the ninth edition of Harvest Money Expo 2025 at Mandela National Stadium, is championing this cause by educating farmers on value addition and equipping them with good agricultural practices to produce high-quality organic products.
Speaking to New Vision, Arnold Nabongo, the production manager at Flona Organics, stated that: “We begin by equipping farmers with good agricultural practices, and eventually, we procure their produce, which we then process and add value to at our factory in Kangulumira.”
Through these efforts, Flona Organics has significantly improved the quality of life for farmers. Regarding the expo, Nabongo expressed his appreciation for the exposure the event provides, but more importantly, for the opportunity to share valuable insights on value addition.
The expo is sponsored by Bella Wine, Engsol, Tunga Nutrition, aBi, UDC, Pepsi Uganda, and the Embassy of the Netherlands.
Held under the theme “Farming as a Business: Value Addition and Cooperatives,” the event aims to bring together establishments such as Flona Organics to lead the way in value addition, agribusiness, and cooperative development.
