Farmers in Teso sub-region have been asked to always wear protective gears while applying the fertilizers in their crop gardens so as to avoid getting complications.
Robert Eligu an agro one limited input dealer in Soroti city while in an exclusive interview with Etop radio notes that most farmers do not wear protective gears while applying the fertilizers which act according to him, expose farmers to several risks of contracting diseases like cancer among others.
Eligu defines fertilizers as “any substance which, by virtue of its nutrient content or its specific chemical, physical and biological characteristics, contributes to the improvement of the fertility of the agricultural land or to the nourishment of cultivated plant species or, in any case, to their better development”, fertilizers are fundamental in the development of plants and crops.
According to him, there are two types of fertilizers which include organic and in organic where there are different categories of in organic in Nitrogen Porporus and Potassium (NPK), Urea, Diamonium Posphate (DAP), Calicium Amonium Nitrate (CAN) and Murate of Potash.
