Bishop Reuben Kisembo of Rwenzori Diocese has called on believers to take on commercial farming as a key strategy for joining the money economy.

While speaking to believers at Nyanswiga Church of Uganda in Rutete sub-county, Kabarole district, Kisembo stated that coffee farming has enough capacity to improve household income.

“I encourage you to not only plant bananas but also intercrop them with coffee and other fruit trees,” Kisembo said during a fundraising ceremony for the roofing of Nyanswiga Church of Uganda on Sunday.

The Bishop added that Church construction is a long-term investment that requires total support from an economically stable society.

He also explained the role of moral and spiritual nourishment that the Church plays in society.

“The Church has to help believers to live better lives by shaping their morals and mobilising them to work hard,” Kisembo said.

Richard Rwabuhinga, the Kabarole district chairperson, said a total of shillings 90 million is required to complete the church’s roof.

“We have managed to collect shillings 33 million from today’s fundraising. A lot more needs to be done,” Rwabuhinga said.

Victoria Businge Rusoke, the state minister for local government, who also doubles as the Kabarole District Woman Member of Parliament, praised Bishop Kisembo for being a champion of development in the diocese.
